Report changes after applying for PR

An applicant must keep material personal and contact information current while IRCC processes the file. The correct response depends on what changed, when it changed and whether it affects eligibility, points, family composition or admissibility.

Identify changes that matter to the application

Marriage, divorce, a birth or adoption, death, a new passport and changes to work, education, language or contact information may need to be reported.Source [1]

Do not wait for the next form or interview if IRCC's instructions require an update. Record the effective date and collect the document that proves the change.

Family changes can affect declarations, examinations, fees, eligibility and who may be included.

Use the channel IRCC specifies

IRCC directs applicants to use its web form for many changes even when the application was submitted online. Address updates may have a separate tool depending on the application and location.

Keep the web-form confirmation and a copy of every attachment. Continue checking old contact channels until the update appears.

Reassess selection and eligibility

A change can increase or reduce points, remove a qualifying job offer, alter a nomination or affect settlement funds. An Express Entry candidate should distinguish a change before accepting an invitation from a change after filing the PR application.

Reporting the change is necessary, but the legal consequence still has to be analyzed.

Make the update consistent
