After submitting a sponsorship application

After completeness review, IRCC assesses the sponsor and applicant, collects biometrics and medical results where required, and conducts relationship, background and admissibility checks before permanent-residence confirmation.

Watch for the acknowledgement and returns

An acknowledgement usually confirms that IRCC accepted the file for processing; it is not approval. An incomplete package can be returned without preserving the expected processing position.

Link or track the application through the tools identified in IRCC’s correspondence.

Meet every request by its deadline

Biometrics, medical exams, police records, fees and additional evidence often have different deadlines. Follow the letter’s upload method and retain confirmation.

Ask for an extension before the deadline when a document truly cannot be obtained, showing the steps taken.

Report changes while processing

Tell IRCC about births, marriage, divorce, separation, death, new charges, passport changes and address or contact updates. Undeclared family changes can affect admissibility and future sponsorship.

For spouse cases, relationship breakdown can remove eligibility and must not be concealed.

Prepare for confirmation and landing

Approved applicants may complete permanent-residence confirmation online in Canada or receive documents for travel and admission. Check names, marital status and dependants before finalization.

The sponsorship undertaking begins according to its legal terms, not when a PR card arrives.
