Family sponsorship document checklist

Family sponsorship uses category-specific forms and checklists. The strongest application is not the largest file; it is a complete, organized record in which identity, family history and relationship evidence agree.

Use the exact checklist for the category

Spouse, child, parent and other-relative applications require different forms. Check version dates and answer the online portal questions for both sponsor and principal applicant.

Country-specific civil-document instructions can change what IRCC accepts.

Prove the sponsor’s eligibility

Include Canadian status, residence and any required income or tax evidence. Explain previous sponsorships, support obligations, criminal history or time living abroad where the forms ask.

A co-signer completes separate declarations and evidence.

Create a coherent family record

Birth, marriage, divorce, custody and death records should account for every declared relationship. Translate documents properly and explain name, date or spelling variations.

Declare non-accompanying family members and complete medical or background steps when instructed.

Select relationship evidence

Organize evidence by history, cohabitation, communication, finances, visits and family recognition. Caption photographs with people, place and date instead of sending an unexplained album.

Save a full copy and report material changes after submission. A simple index helps an officer connect each exhibit to the fact it proves.
